SCP LAUNCHES EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY
SIG Specialist Construction Products (SCP), one of the UK’s largest suppliers of high quality specialist construction materials, has launched an Employee Development Academy. The academy is open to all staff and equips them with the skills they need to maximise their potential.
The academy also ensures that customers are offered the highest levels of expert advice.
It involves a week of intense training and top up seminars for staff. From workshops through to role-plays, the academy aims to improve the skills of everyone working for the company. It forms part of SCP’s commitment to investing in its staff and developing peoples’ careers.
Participants of the Academy will be routinely tested on their knowledge of products and manufacturers, ensuring that customers are given the right specialist product for the right task. Staff in all SCP’s 56 branches across the UK will also be trained in building methods and construction techniques, ensuring everyone has the expertise they need to advise customers with product choice.
The training gives staff the confidence to provide the right product for the job, improving efficiency on site and effectiveness of the product. SCP’s training programme equips staff with awareness of the challenges faced by customers’ onsite and are trained to give advice on how to overcome those challenges with practical solutions.
Mark Tomlin, SCP’s Managing Director says: “It’s an excellent time to be working for SCP. We put a great emphasis into investing in our staff and providing each and every person with the chance to improve on their skills.”
He adds: “The construction industry is facing a potentially crippling skills shortage, especially with an increase in major infrastructure projects across the country. One of the first battles in this challenge is to ensure every company’s own workforce is as well trained as possible.’
The first group of employees has already been through the acadamey, with an emphasis on general management, honing expertise in product knowledge and customer service skills.
SCP supplies highly specialised construction products to major contractors, specialist sub contractors as well as builders merchants. It supplies a vast range of highly specialised products from concrete repair materials, ground engineering products to specialist fixings and power tools.
